The controversy about whether photography is art is one that has been raging in the art world for a long time and we are not likely to totally solve it here. Maybe we would say it touches our “soul”. For a work to be art, there should be a message, a feeling, a reason the artist made the work because he or she wanted to say something, even if how I interpret the statement is different than what the artist meant.

So that might also be an evaluation of a photograph as to its artistic merit or not. Now the primary objection to whether photography is art sometimes is that a photograph is often a realistic depiction of a moment taken with a machine and some would say that “anybody can take a picture.” The implication is that the same mechanical skill it might take to paint a picture of sculpt a statue is not needed for photographic art.

It’s true that the mechanical skill that the guy at Wal-Mart might need to take baby pictures may be the same as a great photographic artist might need. But the objection doesn’t hold up because the same human language is used to create great poetry as it takes yell out obscenities at a baseball game. So it isn’t the skill that makes it art.

Marilah kita bermuhasabah atau menilai dan menghitung kembali tentang amalan harian kita. Kadang-kadang kita akan dapati amalan kita adalah terbalik atau bertentangan dari apa yang patut dilakukan dan dituntut oleh Islam. Mungkin kita tidak sedar atau telah dilalaikan atau terikut-ikut dengan budaya hidup orang lain. Perhatikan apa yang dipaparkan dibawah sebagai contoh amalan yang terbalik:-

1. Amalan kenduri arwah beberapa malam yang dilakukan oleh keluarga simati selepas sesuatu kematian (malam pertama, kedua, ketiga, ketujuh dan seterusnya) adalah terbalik dari apa yang dianjurkan oleh Rasulullah di mana Rasulullah telah menganjurkan jiran tetangga memasak makanan untuk keluarga simati untuk meringankan kesusahan dan kesedihan mereka. Keluarga tersebut telah ditimpa kesedihan, terpaksa pula menyedia makanan dan belanja untuk mereka yang datang membaca tahlil. Tidakkah mereka yang hadir makan kenduri tersebut khuatir kalau-kalau mereka termakan harta anak yatim yang ditinggalkan oleh simati atau harta peninggalan simati yang belum dibahagikan kepada yang berhak menurut Islam?

2. Kalau hadir ke kenduri walimatul urus (kenduri kahwin) orang kerap salam berisi (hadiah wang yang diberi semasa bersalam). Kalau tak ada duit nak dikepit dalam tangan, maka segan ia nak pergi makan kenduri. Tetapi kalau ia menziarah orang mati, tidak segan pula salam tak berisi. Sepatutnya kalau menziarah keluarga si matilah kita patut memberi sedekah. Kalau ke kenduri kahwin, tak bagi pun tak apa kerana tuan rumah panggil untuk diberi makan bukan untuk ia menambah pendapatan.

3. Ketika menghadiri majlis pemimpin negara kita berpakaian cantik kemas dan segak tetapi bila mengadap Allah baik di rumah maupun di masjid, pakaian lebih kurang saja bahkan ada yang tak berbaju. Tidakkah ini suatu perbuatan yang terbalik.

4. Kalau menjadi tetamu di rumah orang dan di beri jamuan, kita rasa segan nak makan sampai habis apa yang dihidangkan kerana rasa segan dan malu, sedangkan yang dituntut dibanyakkan makan dan dihabiskan apa yang dihidang supaya tuan rumah rasa gembira dan tidak membazir.

5. Kalau bersolat sunat di masjid amat rajin, tapi kalau di rumah, sangat malas. Sedangkan sebaik-baiknya solat sunat banyak dilakukan di rumah seperti yang dianjurkan oleh Rasulullah untuk mengelakkan rasa riak.

6. Bulan puasa adalah bulan mendidik nafsu termasuk nafsu makan yang berlebihan tetapi kebanyakan orang mengaku bahawa dalam carta perbelanjaan setiap rumah orang Islam akan kita dapati perbelanjaan di bulan puasa adalah yang tertinggi dalam setahun. Sedangkan sepatutnya perbelanjaan di bulan puasa yang terendah. Bukankah terbalik amalan kita?

7. Kalau nak mengerjakan haji, kebanyakan orang akan membuat kenduri sebelum bertolak ke Mekah dan apabila balik dari Mekah tak buat kenduri pun. Anjuran berkenduri dalam Islam antaranya ialah kerana selamat dari bermusafir, maka dibuat kenduri, bukan kerana nak bermusafir, maka dibuat kenduri. Bukankah amalan ini terbalik? Atau kita mempunyai tujuan lain.

8. Semua ibubapa amat bimbang kalau-kalau anak mereka gagal dalam periksa. Maka dihantarlah ke kelas tuisyen walau pun banyak belanjanya. Tapi kalau anak tak boleh baca Quran atau solat, tak bimbang pula bahkan tak mahu hantar tuisyen baca Quran atau kelas khas mempelajari Islam. Kalau guru tuisyen sanggup dibayar sebulan RM20.00 satu pelajaran 8 kali hadir tapi kepada Tok Guru Quran nak bayar RM15.00 sebulan 20 kali hadir belajar pun menggeletar tangan. Bukankah terbalik amalan kita? Kita sepatutnya lebih berbimbang jika anak tidak dapat baca Al Quran atau bersolat dari tidak lulus periksa.

9. Kalau bekerja mengejar rezeki Allah tak kira siang malam, pagi petang, mesti pergi kerja. Hujan atau ribut tetap diharungi kerana hendak mematuhi peraturan kerja. Tapi ke rumah Allah (masjid) tak hujan, tak panas, tak ribut pun tetap tak datang ke masjid. Sungguh tak malu manusia begini, rezeki Allah diminta tapi nak ke rumahNya segan dan malas.

10. Seorang isteri kalau nak keluar rumah samada dengan suami atau tidak, bukan main lagi berhias. Tetapi kalau duduk di rumah, masyaAllah. Sedangkan yang dituntut seorang isteri itu berhias untuk suaminya, bukan berhias untuk orang lain.. Perbuatan amalan yang terbalik ini membuatkan rumahtangga kurang bahagia.

Seramai 40,116 Calon Dapat Tempat Di IPTA Bagi Sesi Akademik 2007/2008

PUTRAJAYA, 18 Jun (Bernama) -- Seramai 40,116 calon lepasan STPM/Matrikulasi/Setaraf telah ditawarkan tempat bagi meneruskan pengajian di institusi pengajian tinggi awam (IPTA) bagi Sesi Akademik 2007/2008, demikian menurut Ketua Pengarah Jabatan Pengurusan IPT, Kementerian Pengajian Tinggi, Datuk Prof. Dr Hassan Said.

Katanya, seramai 24,924 (62.13 peratus) terdiri daripada calon Bumiputera, 12,745 (31.77 peratus) calon Cina, dan 2,447 (6.10 peratus) calon India telah berjaya dalam pemilihan yang berasaskan kepada merit diputuskan semasa mesyuarat Pemilihan Bersama IPTA.

"Dari jumlah di atas, seramai 23,140 atau 57.7 peratus adalah calon sains dan 16,976 (42.3 peratus) calon sastera," katanya kepada pemberita ketika mengumumkan status keputusan permohonan kemasukan ke IPTA itu.

Prof Hassan berkata seramai 68,110 calon lepasan STPM/Matrikulasi/Asasi telah memohon untuk program Ijazah Pertama, dan dari bilangan ini seramai 53,400 telah mencapai kelayakan minimum, iaitu tahap Purata Nilai Gred Kumulatif (PNGK) 2.00 ke atas serta memenuhi syarat-syarat khas program pengajian.

Katanya dasar pengambilan dan pemilihan kemasukan kali ini adalah berasaskan prinsip meritokrasi dengan menggunapakai 90 peratus markah akademik dan 10 peratus markah kokurikulum.

Bagaimanapun, menurut Prof Hassan, markah kokurikulum 10 peratus itu telah diselaraskan oleh Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia (KPM) memandangkan penganjuran, pemantauan, penilaian dan penglibatan pelajar adalah di bawah kawalan KPM.

Beliau berkata peratusan calon yang berjaya berdasarkan bilangan permohonan termasuk Bumiputra ialah seramai 45,881 manakala tempat yang ditawarkan adalah sebanyak 24,924 (54.32 peratus).

Jumlah permohonan calon Cina 16,290 dan yang mendapat tawaran ialah 12,745 (78.24 peratus), manakala permohonan calon India seramai 4,753 dan tempat yang ditawarkan ialah 2,447 (51.48 peratus).

Bagi program pengajian kompetitif pula, Prof Hassan berkata seramai 925 calon mendapat tawaran untuk meneruskan pengajian dalam bidang perubatan yang terdiri 513 (55.46 peratus) Bumiputera, 356 (38.49 peratus) Cina dan 56 (6.05 peratus) India.

Dalam bidang pergigian seramai 205 calon berjaya mendapat tawaran yang terdiri 113 (55.12 peratus) Bumiputera, 84 (40.98 peratus) Cina dan lapan (3.90 peratus) India.

Prof Hassan berkata seramai 280 calon ditawar tempat di bidang farmasi, 1,600 Kejuruteraan Elektronik, Kejuruteraan Kimia 873, Kejuruteraan Mekanikal 873, Undang-Undang 305 dan perakaunan 948.

Menurut beliau status keputusan kemasukan ke IPTA ini boleh disemak mulai hari ini melalui saluran hebahan termasuk UPU infoLINE 600-83-7890, internet http://www.ipt.uum.edu.my , http://www.ipt.utm.my dan http://mohe.gov.my

Ia juga boleh disemak melalui hotline 03-88835858 dan Helpline 03-88835848 serta melalui SMS 32300 (Maxis, DiGi, TIMECel, TM Touch dan Celcom.

Prof Hassan berkata pihak IPTA akan mengeluarkan surat tawaran kepada calon yang berjaya mulai esok. Mereka juga boleh mencetak surat tawaran melalui laman web.

Bahagian Pengurusan Kemasukan Pelajar, Jabatan Pengurusan IPT juga akan membuka Kaunter Semakan Keputusan Permohonan Kemasukan Ke IPTA Sesi Akademik 2007/2008 di Aras 1, Blok E9, Parcel E, Presint 1, Pusat Pentadbiran Kerajaan Persekutuan, 62505 Putrajaya mulai hari ini hingga 29 Jun, 2007 bagi memudahkan pemohon membuat semakan dan mendapatkan kaunseling.

Prof Hassan berkata bagi calon yang gagal menerima sebarang tawaran ke IPTA dan menerima di luar lapan pilihan program pengajian dibenarkan mengemukakan rayuan melalu Aplikasi e-rayuan berpusat di Pengurusan Kemasukan Pelajar, Jabatan Pengurusan IPT dalam tempoh 10 hari selepas keputusan rasmi diumumkan melalui URL http://www.mohe.gov.my. Tarikh tutup e-rayuan ialah pada 29 Jun, 2007.

Selamat Hari Pekerja untuk semua... Esok cuti so malam ni aku leh la berjaga skit. Leh la tengok bola Chelsea lawan Liverpool. Malam ni mintak-mintak la Liverpool menang. Menyampah aku tengok En Ballack tu. Ego semacam jer tak macam player lain. Lagipun aku memang tak suka Chelsea sejak dari dulu. Liverpool ni my second Fav team dalam Premier League. Liverpool will beat Chelsea 2-1. Ni ramalan aku jer... Apapun Man United tetap da best!

Ari ni penat tul... ni la nasibnya kalau ngajar kat Sekolah Rancangan Khas (SRK). Masuk 7.30 pagi.. balik kul 3.10 petang.. malam ada kelas lagi.. Boleh kurus kering lagi. Orang-orang kat luar sana tunggu masa jer nak komen kalau result exam jatuh. Hampeh! kurang asam tul.. Kekadang kalau dikatakan bangang pun sesuai. Kalau result naik.. bukan kata nak puji bagi semangat..perli ada la. "Patutla result naik, semua pelajar di sekolah tu pelajar terpilih. Pelajar pandai". Ni la ayat2 bangang yang selalu aku dengar dari mulut cikgu-cikgu lain.

Ape? Ingat senang ker ngajar kat sini. Macam-macam kerja kena buat.. Free of charge. Bukannya ada skim Tuisyen Felda macam kat sekolah lain.. Ngajar siang malam, nekadkan ati iklaskan ati. Kalau korang rasa senang ngajar kat sekolah SRK.. meh sesapa yang sudi tukar suka sama suka. Jangan duk menyalak tak tentu pasal. Kononnya bagus. Tapi bila minta ngajar kat sini tak nak... Haprak!
